A recent report regarding a potential "second Post Office IT scandal" has indicated that there is a "reasonable likelihood" that the Capture software was responsible for financial discrepancies experienced by sub-postmasters before the Horizon scandal came to light.

Former Post Office chair Henry Staunton has issued a stark warning about the potential for a new scandal reminiscent of the Horizon debacle. During an inquiry, he emphasized the risks posed by certain investigators and executives, whom he described as "untouchable," if they remain in their positions prior to the implementation of a new IT system. Staunton, who was dismissed by former business secretary Kemi Badenoch in January, highlighted that there are still significant financial discrepancies between the records of sub-postmasters and the Post Office. He stressed the importance of addressing these issues and removing those involved in past prosecutions to prevent a repeat of the injustices experienced during the Horizon scandal.
