Sporting CP has officially acknowledged that Manchester United has approached them regarding their head coach, Rúben Amorim. In a statement released to the Securities Market Commission (CMVM) in Lisbon on Tuesday, the club confirmed that the Premier League side has shown interest in hiring the 39-year-old manager and is willing to activate his release clause, set at €10 million (£8.3 million). Earlier in the day, Manchester United's chances of securing Amorim improved as Sporting reached an agreement with João Pereira, the reserve team coach, to step in as head coach if Amorim departs.
