Teachers from Jamaica working at a prominent academy chain in the UK have expressed their disappointment upon discovering that their salaries are significantly lower than those of their British counterparts with comparable experience. The Harris Federation, which is the second largest academy chain in England and operates 54 state-funded schools, has been actively recruiting teachers from Jamaica in recent years. Many of these educators are drawn to the UK by the promise of higher wages compared to what they earn in the Caribbean. However, the disparity in pay has left many Jamaican teachers feeling disheartened, as they find themselves earning thousands of pounds less than their English-trained colleagues. Additionally, there have been complaints regarding the length of time it takes for the Harris Federation to assist these teachers in obtaining UK teaching qualifications, further complicating their transition into the UK education system.
