“UK Government to Strengthen Online Safety Act Against ‘Revenge Porn’ and Enhance Social Media Regulations”

The UK government is set to strengthen regulations under the Online Safety Act, compelling social media companies to take more decisive action against 'revenge porn.' In a recent interview with Sky News, Science Secretary Peter Kyle emphasized the need for these companies to demonstrate to Ofcom that they are implementing effective measures to protect victims. Kyle expressed his desire for a broader transformation in the operations of social media firms, advocating for a proactive approach where safety is integrated into the design of products before they are released to the public. He stated, "I’m trying to create a situation where safety is baked in at the start of social media products before they land in society. At the moment, they’re free to launch products, and we deal with the harms afterward, leading to retrospective legislation and regulation."
