The Premier League has turned down Manchester City's request for an extended summer break, as confirmed by Pep Guardiola. The club had sought a delay in the start of the 2025-2026 season to give players additional recovery time following their participation in the Club World Cup, which will take place in the United States next summer. This tournament could see City’s current season extend into mid-July. Despite discussions with the Premier League, City was informed that no exceptions would be made for them, even as the defending champions. Chelsea is also set to join City in the tournament. Guardiola expressed his gratitude to the league for their decision, indicating that the club will have to adapt to the schedule as it stands.
