A Metropolitan police officer has been found guilty of gross misconduct for placing a Taser against the neck of an innocent Black teenager, yet he has been permitted to retain his position. The incident, which occurred in September 2020, involved the officer forcing the boy, Jamar Powell, to kneel in the street before threatening him with the weapon.
Jamar Powell expressed to the media that he feared for his life during the encounter and has since been left traumatized. He stated that the experience has severely impacted his ability to trust the police, especially given that he has been subjected to stop-and-search procedures over 30 times without any contraband being discovered.
Despite the severity of the officer's actions, the decision to allow him to keep his job has sparked outrage, with Powell advocating for a more stringent consequence, such as termination, rather than just a written warning.
