US federal prosecutors have accused members of the Turkish government of orchestrating a long-term influence campaign aimed at securing favors from Eric Adams, the mayor of New York City. An indictment released on Thursday by the US attorney for the southern district of New York alleges that officials and business leaders connected to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan provided Adams with thousands of dollars in illegal foreign campaign contributions, as well as complimentary or significantly discounted luxury hotel accommodations and flights around the globe.
