“Evangelos Marinakis Launches £2.1m Libel Suit Against Greek Rival Over Match-Fixing Allegations”

Evangelos Marinakis, the owner of Nottingham Forest and Olympiakos, has initiated a libel lawsuit against Greek football rival Irini Karipidis, seeking over £2.1 million in damages. The lawsuit stems from what Marinakis describes as a "smear campaign" that includes unfounded allegations of match-fixing. The claims, which Marinakis vehemently denies, were disseminated through various platforms, including a website, social media channels like X, and mobile billboards, between November 2023 and March 2024. During a recent court hearing, it was revealed that the accusations also implicated Marinakis in a notorious drug trafficking case in Greece.
