The former England captain expressed his feelings of privilege regarding this recognition, joining the ranks of legendary cricketers such as WG Grace, Shane Warne, Brian Lara, Ian Botham, and Viv Richards. Cook's impressive career includes scoring 33 Test centuries and amassing a total of 12,472 runs. In his tribute, he acknowledged the influence of Graham Gooch, highlighting the impact that the former England player had on his own journey in cricket. The last England player to receive this prestigious honor was Charlotte Edwards, the former captain of the England women's team, who was inducted in 2022. Additionally, Bob Willis, celebrated for his remarkable performance during the 1981 Ashes series at Headingley, was posthumously inducted in 2021, alongside former Test captain and chairman of selectors, Ted Dexter.
